The 7-inch UHD2, not a different sonar class
This is a research-synthesis review based on Garmin’s ECHOMAP UHD2 7-inch sv page and a live Amazon listing titled with the GT54 transducer (ASIN B0BV7HY6FK). We have not installed this 7-inch unit.
The 9-inch EchoMap UHD2 93sv already sits in the library. The 73sv exists because plenty of 18–22 foot boats do not have a 9-inch hole. Garmin’s family page lists a 7-inch touchscreen with keyed assist, UHD SideVü / ClearVü / CHIRP, and Navionics+ inland mapping on the 73sv configuration.
Price and bundle caution
Garmin lists the 73sv without transducer at $899.99. The Amazon checkout page we used is the GT54 bundle, which is the more complete small-boat box. Those are not the same SKU. If a listing is cheaper, it may be the no-transducer unit.
Where it stops short
Seven inches is workable, not luxurious, for chart plus sonar at speed. And UHD imaging still needs a clean transducer. Do not buy the 73sv to “save” on install quality.
Who should buy it
- Buy it if: the dash wants UHD2 and will not take the 93sv.
- Step up to the 93sv if: you already know you want split-screen chart and sonar as the default view.
Match inland versus coastal mapping to the water you run. That mistake is more expensive than the screen-size debate.
